Privacy Screening Installation
Five 10-foot-tall Green Giant Arborvitae installed along the backyard fence line to deliver immediate privacy, with growth averaging around 12 inches per year for progressively fuller screening over time.
Accent Boulders & Mulch Finish
Accent boulders placed for visual interest and texture, with fresh mulch applied across the planting area for a clean, polished look.
Custom Landscape Lighting Design
Fixture-by-fixture lighting plan developed to highlight the home's existing landscaping and architectural features, followed by full system installation across the property.
Fine-Tuning & Clean Finish
Return visits over several evenings to fine-tune each fixture in the dark, ensuring every beam was positioned exactly right. All wiring professionally buried afterward for a polished, wire-free appearance.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Project Goals

The homeowners were referred to Ascend by a family member who was a longtime client of ours. The home itself was one of the most beautiful we’ve worked on, with stunning existing landscaping — but the property had two clear opportunities. The backyard lacked privacy along the fence line, and once the sun went down, the front of the home lost all of its presence. Their vision was a backyard that felt secluded and comfortable from day one, paired with a home that looked just as elegant after sunset as it did during the day.

Our team developed a plan that addressed both goals in a single coordinated project. For privacy, we specified five mature 10-foot Green Giant Arborvitae to deliver instant coverage along the fence line, finished with accent boulders and fresh mulch. For the lighting side, we built a custom plan around the home’s architecture and existing landscaping — treating placement as everything. Multiple evening return visits followed the initial install so every fixture could be fine-tuned in real dark conditions before wiring was professionally buried. The result is a property that feels more private and comfortable in the backyard, and just as striking at night as it is during the day.

Design & Site Planning

Full property walkthrough covering both the backyard fence line and the front-of-home lighting opportunity. Selection of Green Giant Arborvitae as the screening species based on mature height availability and growth rate, with placement planned for the five trees and accent boulders. Custom lighting plan developed in parallel to highlight the home’s architecture and existing landscaping.

Phase 2 · ✓ Completed

Site Preparation

Drainage work and ground preparation along the fence line to support the mature root balls of the 10-foot trees. Staging of trees, boulders, and mulch on site. Lighting fixtures, wiring, and transformer materials prepped for install.

Phase 3 · ✓ Completed

Planting & Lighting Installation

Installation of all five 10-foot Green Giant Arborvitae along the fence line. Accent boulders placed for visual interest. Fresh mulch applied across the planting area for a clean finish. Full landscape lighting system installed across the property per the custom plan.

Fine-Tuning & Final Results

Multiple after-dark return visits to adjust each lighting fixture’s aim, angle, and intensity in real lighting conditions. Once every beam was positioned exactly where it needed to be, all wiring was professionally buried for a clean, wire-free finish. Final walkthrough with the homeowners.
