Sod & Grading
Complete site regrading following pool installation with new sod laid throughout the entire backyard.

Low-voltage pathway & accent lighting; 120V patio and pergola feature wiring.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Project Goals

Homeowners Robbie and Allie came to Ascend following the installation of a new pool that had left their entire backyard torn up and unfinished. Rather than simply restoring what was there, the blank slate created an opportunity to design the full space from the ground up with the pool as the centerpiece.

The vision was a backyard that felt private, cohesive, and resort-like — a personal oasis that made the pool area the focal point of the property. Robbie and Allie trusted Ascend to both design and execute the complete plan, never requiring a final rendering before work began — a testament to the relationship built throughout the process. Our team developed a comprehensive plan covering hardscaping, planting, grading, sod, and lighting to deliver a finished backyard that felt intentional in every detail.

Project Phases

Phase 1 · ✓ Completed

Site Assessment & Landscape Design

Full site evaluation of post-pool construction conditions. Assessment of grading needs, drainage considerations, and structural requirements for the rear retaining wall. Complete backyard design developed around the pool footprint, incorporating all hardscape, planting, and lighting elements.

Phase 2 · ✓ Completed

Grading, Drainage & Hardscape Construction

Full site regrading to restore proper slope and drainage following pool excavation disturbance. Stone retaining wall constructed behind the pool to anchor the upper yard. Flagstone walkway base prepared and installed. Decorative rock and cobble borders established throughout the space.

Phase 3 · ✓ Completed

Planting & Sod Installation

Screening trees planted along perimeter to establish privacy. Colorful planting beds installed throughout the design. New sod laid across all graded areas of the backyard. Final grading touchups completed ahead of turf establishment.

Phase 4 · ✓ Completed

Final Results & Landscape Lighting

Low-voltage landscape lighting installed to accent the pool area and highlight key hardscape features. Final walkthrough and adjustments completed with homeowners. The finished backyard delivered the private, inviting atmosphere Robbie and Allie envisioned — a space they now describe as their own personal oasis.
